Undelivered Mail Returned by Véronique Bourgoin

Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender is inspired by the true story of the poet and writer Lin Zhao. To make the film, I covered the walls of the 2m2 room with white paper and placed four cameras, one at each corner, recreating the four surveillance cameras that today surround Lin Zhao's grave 24 hours a day. The action spanning approximately one hour, shows the evolution of a half-cyborg, half-tribal being, with a mask and a white lab coat in an enclosed space, and is transcribed in real time by the viewpoints of the 4 cameras. A ritual which puts energy and the body at the centre of the observation.
The mask created for this action is a mixture of organic and inorganic elements: anti theft tags, electric wire, mirrors, plastic toys made in China, wood, hair, Paraguayan tribal necklaces, feathers, semi-precious stones, amber from Russia, etc, adorn the 3D glasses on which runs an FTP text of a return message with the subject: “Undelivered Email Returned to Sender”, in response to an email sent to an address created for the project.
Over time, the drawing and the writing cover the walls and the floor of the cell, and is read like a diagram produced live by the electricity of the body transmitted by the organic conductors which still remain in this humanoid. The music that accompanies the film is composed by Afshin Motlaghfard an Iranian composer who currently lives in Iran and is unable to leave. The music has shaped in its majority by the ambient sounds that has extracted from the performance.
In China it is said that people who have died in a violent or unjust way, or those who could not receive a proper burial, return in the form of a ghost. The only way to appease them and bring them justice is to bury them with dignity. The ceramic jointe in the project represents a ghostly being emerging from a chemical reaction in which the past and future are mixed together to create a majestic effigy of earth and enamels.

Rêverie du feu bleu
This project has received the support of the Antoine de Galbert Foundation.

"Rêverie du feu bleu" is a work in progress led by Véronique Bourgoin and is associated with Juli Susin's project "Paradises that even Baudelaire never dreamed of".

These projects look at ceramics not only as sculpture works, but also as observation matter for other mediums and processes.
Shifting from one medium to another creates a space for meditation which allows one to deepen the experience with the material. A group reflection on human and ecological fragility, emerge at an intersection of individual processes , as an experimental interval, which is expressed as a specific condition of the energy in an underlying transformation, a trigger set off by the symbioses between geology and history, form and color, human and unhuman, space and event, organic and inorganic.

The ceramic sculptures, photographs and drawings by Véronique Bourgoin represent equations turned into female figures and set in motion in "Blue Fire Reverie", a mesomorphic hallucination which reveals the germs of broken shapes and their power of antidote.

Former tourist office of Montreuil, this new short-lived place is entrusted to the artist Véronique Bourgoin for programmation between middle February and the end of April. Playing with the name “ Office" in echo to Uffize of Florence, Véronique Bourgoin makes reference at a historic moment, when the Workshop of the artist, became a place of meeting for artists, thinkers and mécênes, favoring the dialogue and the training of new ideas. This project brings in conflict the concept Warburgien, of "the line of division" that she marks between various peoples and companies as well in the space as in time, and the obsolete idea of the "center”. Situated right in the heart of “Croix-de-Chavaux", this space suggests to move the point of convergence of a new artistic situation in Montreuil.

This exhibition proposes a selection of photos going 1920s in our days around a subject which attracts invariably, in the time and the cultures, the nude. The nude is the simplest figure of our counting and this simplicity in fact a fascinating element. The nude, by the medium of the photography takes a particular dimension. He appears as the closest to the reality, the flesh and the skin taking shape under our eyes. The observation of the naked bodies sends back to us to our materiality, to our vulnerability.
The exhibition "The beauty exposure" gathers about twenty artists who confirm Philippe Jousset's idea according to which " the secret of the nude, it is what we know best and we continue not less to look.”

OPENING SATURDAY 7th MAY 2016

On this occasion Véronique BOURGOIN leaves the keys of her installation room "Square Galaxy”
to the gallery owner Arnaud DESCHIN.
Black squares painted by the artist during the finishing of the exhibition “Trailer#1" replaced her original works. As shadows witnessing the third dimension, these monochrome blacks are questioning the role of the work of art in our dalylife and its future. They also challenge the sensation of space and its representation in two dimensions. This work in several layers is evolutionary and for the the Biennial Longchamp n°1“Transmission”, the host Arnaud Deschin has invited two artists of the School of Fine Arts of Marseille, to hang on their works in Véronique Bourgoin’s room.

Véronique Bourgoin questions the viewer about art’s place and role as well as the evolution of communication space in our everyday lives, our existence. "For the exhibition Trailer in La Gad, I chose to play with the concept of Arnaud Deschin's gallery settled in his living space and to create an installation in situ 43°17’49’’Nord / 5°22’51’’ Est, which transforms the white cube of his gallery in mirror of his living space."

Each work opens new spaces, wherein “matter” and “black holes” meet up with their trajectories, creating temporal distortion, immersing the visitor in a paradoxical situation between visionary dreams and interior chaos. A universe where altered image, overexposed by “too much” light can disappear in an instant, leaving a sparkling trace behind it, as if something persisted inside. Our memory is stored in “clouds”, black screens, new magical mirrors, inciting images of what we’d like to be, all the information we’d like to know, the mirror Alice crosses, the water of the Styx in which Narcissus seeks his reflection, an immaterial flow where saturation of images and information also provoke their erasure.

Juli SUSIN - Chute d’eau hors-champ

These photographs were taken between 2000 and 2014 while scouting locations, in both the literal and cinematic sense of the term. The camera was focused on the subject, but with no guarantee of the truth. Everyone can interpret the facts his or her own way, or can regard the photos as part of an anonymous archive, left behind in some bottom drawer of a research facility, for reasons that are unclear. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Véronique Bourgoin and Sebastian Riemer

31 January until 14 Febuary 2015

Opening Friday, 30 January 2015, 6 - 9 pm

An encounter of two photographers – but also two contrary approaches to the classic question of truth and fiction in photography.

Véronique Bourgoin refers to the experimental techniques of the avant-garde in the early 20th century. Her photographs are layered with anachronistic effects and refer to the surreal picture language. This opens a tremendous space for imaginary stories.

Véronique Bourgoin - Salon Comos 2°

13th to 16th november 2014

“Salon Cosmos” is an installation which, in the manner of a large photographic collage, questions the viewer about art’s place and role as well as the evolution of communication space in our everyday lives, our existence.Véronique Bourgoin stages the ‘salon’ as a metaphor, a setting for communication and exchange. “Like a film’s décor, my “salon” became transportable and transformable inside an installation which juxtaposes environments by combining works, objects, editions and photos to reveal a voyage both poetic and historical. “Inspired by my own reality, I recreate space in trompe l’oeil, where the surfaces covered in black and white wallpaper, depict on a 1/1 scale, salons selected during my travels and encounters… "1

For Paris Photo, Véronique Bourgoin create a new “salon” where she mixes her work with “black holes” and she invites collectors to collaborate with her for trying to exchange the “black holes” with some art pieces from their collection.

“This installation unveils the gap between artwork’s space-time and the world, begging the question of the artistic object’s place in our daily lives. It doesn’t proceed in a theoretical manner, but rather relies on the very true story of our own personal life experience amidst artwork and artists, miraculously reincarnated in this salon. Each viewer is invited to circulate freely in this labyrinth in search of his or her own answer.”

Presentation and book signed of REMAKE the last artist edition by Véronique Bourgoin

A recueil of films and photographies on the project REMAKE by Véronique Bourgoinwith the Hole Garden.

The Remake project began in China and to Honk Kong in 2007, and continued according to the same concept in several European countries. The starting point was to create in China "Marylin" with the accessible means: accessories, dresses, wigs, shoes found in the Chinese markets. One " Marilyn made in China". Interpreted by Hole Garden, this "Marylin" western icon multiplies according to spaces and acts in public and private spaces like a robot. Parody at the same time of the film symbol, the avatar, the robot, the clone or human barbie, these movies record the performances of these "Marilyn" in the daily life.

Salon Cosmos - 116
Installation de Véronique Bourgoin

Véronique Bourgoin, artist and founder of the Atelier Reflexe, was born in 1964 at Marseilles. She makes federative installations like collages of juxtaposed universes in which publications, artworks, sculptures and photographs are mixed together. The Atelier Reflex is a transportable and metamorphosable cosmic salon which invites visitors on a journey that is both poetic and historic.
It all started in a bungalow in Montreuil-sous-Bois, that was rearranged by Véronique Bourgoin and Juli Susin, in 1989, into a place that might encourage collaboration, like a space station lost in the middle of nowhere, but close to everything.
Véronique Bourgoin made her salon mobile and recreated, with each installation, a new space as a trompe l'oeil in the image of a “salon” for collaboration and exchange. Black and white wallpaper provide a nostalgic decor in which unusual objects are accumulated: VHS tapes, vinyls, books, curiosities, a dreamlike reflection on the mutation of the space of communication.

ART AS CONTRABAND

For the project CONTENTORES| P28 Lisboa 2013, Veronique Bourgoin designed an installation
"The art as a smuggle" and she invites Anne Lefebvre and Juli Susin to take part.

CONTENTORES2013 | P28 | LISCONT | 21-09 to 31-10 2013 | TERREIRO DA MISSA | BELEM | LISBOA

Véronique Bourgoin create an installation which shows the inside of a container in battle as as the rest after a robery where only the art peices are left.
The container transports the history, the communication between civilisations, the first and the last contraband, Life and Death symbolised by a naked woman with an oversized sex which seems to have a dialogue or to play with death, set in a heap of gutted boxes from where are escaping the testimonies of our time : Art Works, unusual objects, as Anne Léfèbvre's ceramic bitten apple, put in the case of a famous Parisian jeweller, books, magazines, TV screens that are showing some strange movies: as the video of Juli Susin showing a man in search of a passage in the time, on a night-vessel in the streets of a Parisian suburb, or Véronique Bourgoin's movies of the women dolls, "Eve of the Future" made in China, moving like robots lost in a landscape in perpetual movement.
This installation proposes the art as the smuggled shape in a Time where the information is conveyed at the speed of light, where the tools of control are multiplying in the invisible fields, where the immateriality takes over the expression, where the normality dresses up as "cool guy" or "cool girl", qualified by one "I like it". When even culture becomes a major economical issue, the art remains a type of contraband

CONTENTORES| P28 in partner with LISCONT presents the installations by
Alexandre Farto /Jorge Molder / Pedro Cabrita Reis / Pedro Cabral Santo / Paulo Mendes / Veronique Bourgoin (who invites in her container Juli Susin and Anne Lefevbre)

Véronique Bourgoin
VRAI OU FAUX ? Act I & Act II

2013 1st June - 1st Septembre

Oppening 1st June with a performance by Vero Cruz and the Hole Garden
with a musical improvisation by Reza Azard and the Forty Dollar Baby

For the exhibition Vrai ou Faux?, Véronique Bourgoin designed an extensive trompe l’oeil installation in two rooms, with a setting of intimate living rooms. In these private environments she shows work from a variety of sources. The collection includes historic images, but also work by contemporary European artists and from daily papers and the internet. By means of a unique composition of images the installation aims to visualize the transforming effect of truth, on a local and international scale alike. Whether it concerns aesthetics, culture, the environment, the media, the economy or social behaviour, the role and significance of 'truth' is subject to change.
